The nay (also spelled nāy or ney) is a cane flute with an open end for blowing. The instrument has been known in the Near East since ancient times. It has nine joints, six holes in the front and one in the back. Nays are available in a range of lengths depending on the registers they play. Aria Music Publications includes the nay in many of its arrangements.
